Proximity is the great, new album by pianist Enrico Pieranunzi. The recording features bassist Matt Penman, trumpeter Ralph Alessi and Donny McCaslin on tenor and soprano saxophones. Four superb musicians form different generations, each with a different sensitivity to the music and who are having fun looking for a common rhythm, paradoxically with no reassuring support from drums. But by backing one another up and taking all the jazz they have experienced, they have strived to conceive their own unique musical concept.
