The path jazz music has forged is littered with long forgotten musicians, composers and compositions. The John McNeil Bill McHenry quartet has made it their mission to pick up the pieces. The Quartetʼs effort to reintroduce underappreciated tunes and composers is wonderfully documented on their new recording, Rediscovery.
The spirited group is co-led by trumpeter McNeil and saxophonist McHenry and features a great rhythm section, Joe Martin on bass and Jochen Ruekert on drums. Bill McHenry made theTen Best list for 2007 of The New York Times in fifth position, for his latest CD “Roses”
