French born and raised bassist Clovis Nicolas has engrained himself in the New York City jazz scene over the past decade. He has been an important collaborator with many of the music’s best. Having accomplished so much, it was high time for Nicolas to release his debut recording as a leader, Nine Stories. The album features the bassist’s highly creative compositions along with some choice standards, including pieces by Kenny Dorham and Sonny Rollins.
