The art of songwriting has long been the province of singer/songwriters. The art has all but been forgotten in jazz, as the focus has been squarely put on soloists rather than composers. Maybe due to his association with talents like Ben Kweller, Andrew Bird and Sara Bareilles, bassist/composer Chris Morrissey has stressed the importance of writing catchy, artful songs in the jazz canon.
