"Recorded in New York, with American sidemen, the 11 numbers in his new CD Share are the first that most of us will have heard of Trotignon, although he has released an album a year to growing acclaim in France since his debut in 2000. His piano playing is typically French in that romantic-but-not-quite-sentimental way and his work in the ensemble is a joy. At faster tempos, he generates a cool, uncluttered swing that brings out the best in his two main soloists, saxophonist Mark Turner and trumpeter Tom Harrell, here playing the mellow flugelhorn.

In 2002, Baptiste Trotignon won the Grand Prize at the Martial Solal International Jazz-Piano Competition. The contest happens every four years. Its 2002 version had more than 100 candidates from 29 countries competing.
Whilst simultaneously working on an extremely broad range of projects (concerts as a duo with top-flight improvisers such as Tom Harrell and Brad Mehldau), he continues to develop a musical style that is resolutely open-minded."
